Abstract
The Indian economy has undergone remarkable structural transformation over the last three decades, emerging
as one of the fastest-growing major economies in the world. Economic liberalization, globalization, technological innovation, demographic advantages, and government-led reforms have significantly contributed to India’s economic progress. However, despite achieving substantial growth in Gross Domestic Product (GDP), India
continues to face persistent challenges such as unemployment, inflation, income inequality, regional disparities,
environmental degradation, and infrastructure constraints. The COVID-19 pandemic further highlighted vulnerabilities within the economy while simultaneously accelerating digital transformation and policy reforms. This review paper critically examines the present state of the Indian economy, highlighting major growth drivers,
structural challenges, policy initiatives, and future opportunities. The study is based entirely on secondary data collected from government reports, Reserve Bank of India publications, Economic Surveys, research journals, and international organizations. The review identifies that sustainable economic development requires balanced
growth across agriculture, manufacturing, and services while emphasizing digital innovation, human capital development, financial inclusion, environmental sustainability, and institutional reforms. The paper concludes that India’s long-term economic success depends on inclusive policies, technological advancement, and effective
governance capable of transforming demographic potential into productive economic outcomes.
